Capturing Your Love Story: Tips for a Dreamy Engagement Session

Engagements

Hi, I'm Sofia Bianco, a photographer and brand content creator based on the Amalfi Coast. So glad you're here.

Your engagement session is a beautiful prelude to your big day, a chance to freeze those fleeting moments of anticipation and joy. It’s also a great opportunity to spend time with your wedding photographer, see how comfortable they make you in front of the camera, and how your personalities match with theirs. To ensure your engagement session is nothing short of dreamy, here are some tips that will help to make your photos truly enchanting.

1. Choose Complementary Outfits:

– Coordinating your outfits doesn’t mean wearing matching colors, but rather selecting complementary tones. Soft pastels, earthy tones, or classic neutrals work well for creating a cohesive look without being too matchy-matchy.

– Consider the location of your shoot when choosing colors. Earthy tones may complement an outdoor, natural setting, while bold colors might pop against a city backdrop.

2. Dress for the Season and Location:

– Columbus boasts a variety of scenic locations, from lush parks to downtown cityscapes. Dress according to the season and the ambiance of your chosen spot. Flowy dresses or light suits are perfect for spring and summer, while cozy sweaters and scarves can add warmth to fall and winter sessions. If you aren’t comfortable in your outfit, that will show in your face during your session.

3. Bring Out Your Personal Style:

– Your engagement photos should reflect who you are as a couple. Feel free to showcase your personal style, whether it’s a bohemian vibe, classic elegance, or casual chic. Be yourselves, and let your personalities shine through.

4. Posing Naturally:

– The best photos capture authentic moments, so don’t be afraid to be yourselves. Forget about stiff poses and focus on interacting naturally with each other. Hold hands, steal a kiss, or share a laugh—these candid moments make for the most enchanting photographs. The key here is movement!

5. Location, Location, Location:

Columbus offers a plethora of picturesque locations. Whether you opt for one our lush parks (or the Franklin Park Conservatory), the vibrant Short North Arts District, or the historic German Village, choose a location that resonates with you as a couple.

Another option is a location of significance to you both. I’ve had couples go back to their first date location for their engagement session, or even back to the very spot of the proposal itself!

6. Golden Hour Magic:

Consider scheduling your engagement session during the golden hour, shortly after sunrise or before sunset. The soft, warm light during these times adds a magical touch to your photos, creating a dreamy and romantic atmosphere.

7. Props and Personal Touches:

Bring along meaningful props or elements that represent your relationship—a picnic blanket, your fur baby, or even glasses to toast with! These additions can enhance the storytelling aspect of your engagement session. I always supply props to my couples during an engagement session, so be sure to check with your photographer while planning to see what they may already have for you!

Columbus, Ohio, with its vibrant neighborhoods and scenic parks, provides the perfect backdrop for your engagement session. By incorporating these tips, you’ll not only look incredible in your photos but also create lasting memories that truly capture your unique love story. Enjoy your session!
